Fireworks July 3 2008 Lake County wauconda illinois

On this fun and festive night, Mr. and Mrs. Plum decided to head out to Wauconda to enjoy a relaxing night off from work. No photography, no web design, no clients, just family time. We both cheated and took photos. :)

This was a perfect place to take pictures and enjoy the fireworks — not too crowded and we got a perfect spot on the hill on which we could sit and relax and enjoy the display. On the way home the road out was a parking lot of traffic, however we didn’t mind because we were happy to have seen such a wonderful show! Thanks Wauconda!

Security for models

In response to a question posted on photography forum — “what should a model do if a photographer refuses to give information about their company?”

As a photographer myself, I can appreciate when models and clients ask me for detailed information. I recently had a client ask me “how old are you” and “are you married”. Not that it impacts my professional work, but he appreciated the fact that I was honest with him and didn’t dodge the questions. If you are going to spend 2 hours with someone in an enclosed room you need to feel comfortable with who they are and know they are a “real” person. I try to be as upfront as I can with my models about the session and the studio – I even offer green tea during my portrait shoots as this is part of who I am.My advice for models would be to be polite with questions but also persistent! If someone avoids your simply questions, can not tell you about their gear, will not provide you a photo of the studio or tells you to come alone… those are warning signs. Please do not put yourself into a dangerous situation.

On the flip side, maybe someone can offer some advice. Sometimes in the back of my mind I wonder about the models who come into the studio. How do I know they are legitimate and not just out to case the joint? To protect myself and my equipment, unless I have already worked with the person or they are a personal referral from a close friend, I have a second photographer on site. Most people are open and able to provide me sample photos, which I appreciate but not all clients do. Any thoughts for up front pre-screening of models and clients?

Finally someone who explained the basics to me. Thank you thank you! This online article buy Cheryl Johnson was a lifesaver!
I had tried for years to do this and always got frustrated and gave up. Layers never made sense to me. And most of the tutorials go through the basics so quickly and jump right into the hard stuff. I never got the basics fast enough until now! So thank you. Now you presented in such a way that I was able to complete my projects and more. In fact I did a wedding collage and then a portrait collage within the same night. Come see the work for yourself. It is now posted on my blog — you can see that I used your advice and made the collages. Again, many thanks and best wishes to you!!!
Cheers,

Agnes

Wedding Deb and Michael

This Saturday was the beautiful wedding of Deborah and Mike. This was a second marriage for both of them but their love for each other was stronger than ever! The decorations followed the “Hawaiian” theme of shells, flowers, and sands. Very peaceful. While the bride was finishing getting ready, I snapped off a few of the background images to help tell the story of their special day.

I captured some of the bright color of the party and mixed it with the antique beauty of the wedding rings.

After a few of the pre-ceremony images were captured, everyone heading out to the ceremony. The day was sunny and the sky a velvety blue. It was as if the clouds knew to stay away! Yes, even the family dog was in the wedding party. He was decked out in his wedding gear and ready to party!

The ceremony was pleasant, one of the prettiest I have experienced. The couple wrote their own wedding vows and as such they were full of love and laughs. The ceremony wrapped up with each family member (Deborah and her kids and Michael and his kids) all pouring out a cup of colored sand into a vase – representing the joining of the two families. Magic! Having done a great of wedding, this was a first for me.

The rest of the evening was spent with family, laughs, and fun. Very low key and relaxed.

Congratulations to Deborah and Michael!
Best wishes to both you and your children start the next chapter in your lives together.
